What Happy Faces are Hiding
Depression and Suicide in Young Adults
with
Mr. Ross Szabo
Ross Szabo, Director of Youth Outreach for the National Mental Health Awareness campaign, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 16, hospitalized twice for depression, and knows up close and personally how the stigma associated with mental illness prevents young adults from getting the help they need when they are depressed and thinking of suicide. During the past six years, Ross is the only person in the country who has spoken directly to more than 700,000 young people in high schools and colleges about mental health issues. He has influenced the youth of America about the importance of combating the stereotypes that surround mental health. Ross also encourages young people to express themselves and seek help for their problems. His message of individuality and acceptance among youth is making an impact, as he has received tens of thousands of thank you letters from young people.
